Jade Shaw
Senior Occupational TherapistHello! I’m Jade, a qualified and passionate Occupational Therapist with 12 years’ experience in the Paediatric field
of Occupational Therapy. I graduated from The University of Witwatersrand in South Africa in 2012 with a
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. My career has focused intensely on Early Childhood Development,
Sensory Integration and Neurodevelopmental Practices. I have worked with children with varying diagnoses
including Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADD/ADHD) and Intellectual Disabilities (ID).
I am skilled in assessment and clinical reasoning, with a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based practices
within a Pediatric Occupational Therapy framework. I have undertaken various Professional Development and
postgraduate training courses and am committed to continuing my education to stay current in my field of
practice.
As part of my professional journey, I have gained valuable experience working with children of all ages, from
diverse cultural backgrounds and with unique individual circumstances. I take pride in my ability to deeply
understand the unique needs of every child and to develop therapy plans that ensure each child receives the most
effective and supportive care possible. My genuine love for engaging with children and my playful and empathetic
approach allows for comfortable interactions that are enjoyable and impactful. By embracing a sense of fun, I
strive to make each session a positive experience that supports engagement, development and well-being.
As a mother myself, I bring empathy and understanding to my work with families. My personal experience as a
mother has enriched my ability to connect with parents and caregivers, allowing me to offer genuine support and
insight into their unique challenges. This perspective helps me create a compassionate, family-centered approach
to therapy, ensuring that I address not only the needs of the child but also the concerns and dynamics of the
entire family.
I am dedicated to advancing the field of Occupational Therapy through a strong commitment to supervising and
mentoring fellow therapists. With a comprehensive background in Occupational Therapy and years of hands-on
experience, I aim to contribute to a vibrant and skilled community of Occupational Therapists through supervision
and Professional Development. I believe that ongoing professional growth is essential for both personal and
collective success and I take great pride in mentoring therapists, offering guidance on best practices and
facilitating skill enhancement to help them achieve their full potential to drive meaningful change and make a
lasting impact in the field of Paediatric Occupational Therapy.
